I. Teaching aims and learning objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
1. introduce different facilities in their school;
2. describe their school with suitable words and expressions.
3. love our school and study hard.
4. learn to help poor children.

Pre-reading
Step 1 Lead-in
1. Free talk
Show a picture of our school and ask the students Where is it?
2. Ask the students Do you love it? and Is our school beautiful?, help the students to answer Yes, it is. The teacher says It looks so beautiful. to help the students learn the new word “so”.
Step 2 A game
1. Play a game Where am I? . Suppose the teacher is new here and show pictures of different places in our school and get the students to say out the names of different places and teach all the new words at the same time.
2. Fill in the box with the right name of each place and form a map of our school.

Step 3 Presentation
Guide the students to read the words and expressions together and then ask the students to read them together.
【設計意圖】教師開門見山說明本意,本課時介紹校園環境。從熟悉的本校的校園環境入手,通過做簡單的猜地名游戲,既導入課文又激發學生學習英語的積極性,同時也激發學生潛在的語言儲備。9個不同的地點,快速復習名詞詞匯,為后面的對話做好鋪墊。利用四個一般疑問句來引導學生如何用恰當的形容詞匯來描述學校不同場合。再次領讀全部生詞,幫助學生鞏固。

Step 4 Skimming
Skim the text and choose the right answer about the main idea of the conversation.

Step 5 Read and write
Help Millie write the correct words of different places under the pictures. (Part B1, Page 33)

Step 6 Scanning
Tick the correct answers from the information about Sunshine Middle School.(Part B2,Page33)
Step 7 Careful reading
Read the information about Sunshine Middle School. Write a T if a sentence is true or an F if it is false. If it is false, please correct the mistake with the right answer. (Part B3, Page34)

Step 8 Listen and write
Listen to the tape of the text and help Millie complete her diary entry with the information about Sunshine Middle School.
【設計意圖】第一個關于談話的中心思想問題可以通過快速閱讀從文章中歸納出答案。學生快讀閱讀提取信息的能力可以再次得到鍛煉。書中PartB1 的練習比較簡單,學生通過閱讀前的準備已經能看圖填詞,Part B2的練習一般學生通過閱讀也可以得出結論。Part B3的練習要經過比較詳細的閱讀得到答案,并且讓學生通過改錯的方式進一步加深對課文內容的認識。用聽力的方式完成Part B4既能鍛煉聽力,同時也讓學生對課文再次有個全面認識。
Post-reading
Step 9 Sum up the phrases
Sum up the phrases in the text and check the pre-class homework at the same time.
Step 10 Act out
Give the students two minutes to prepare for acting the dialogue out in pairs.
Step11 Make up a dialogue
T: Suppose Millie is your penfriend and she wants to learn something about our school. Can you talk about our school?(A model dialogue is given to the students to imitate.)
Step 12 Writing
Fill in the blanks with the correct answers to write about our own school. (In the form of a diary)
Step 13 Further understanding
Show the students some pictures of poor schools and poor children and get them to discuss What do you think? What should you do? (In groups of four).
After two minutes’ discussion, ask each group to choose one leader to report their results to the whole class.
【設計意圖】通過各種方式的閱讀,使學生對課文有了一定的了解,然后幫助學生歸納本課詞組,同時也是檢測預習情況,深化學生對課文的認識。讓學生表演對話是檢測學生是否會正確朗讀對話,邀請2-3組學生展示。要求學生編寫對話是對本課所學知識的綜合使用,但鑒于我校學生英語學習基礎較薄弱,完全靠學生自己編寫有難度,所以讓其模仿編對話。用缺詞填空的方式寫一篇有關我校情況的日記,是對學生本課學習的檢測,也是為本單元Task 的教學打下伏筆。而將本校辦學條件跟其他貧困學校的辦學條件相比,讓學生四人一組展開討論,然后讓每組派個代表匯報本組討論結果,既是對學生綜合運用英語能力的考驗,也是對本課情意目標的升華。

【設計意圖】要求學生背誦對話并討論我們學校的情況,讓學生學以致用,鞏固所學知識,讓學生自己弄清楚對話中的新語言點是為了讓學生在本課的第二課時中能帶著問題去聽課,以便讓聽課更有效。

新設計:本課是校“課堂大比武”活動的參賽課,同時是借班上課。本校為一所農村初中,學生經過小學四年的英語學習已經出現明顯的分化,大部分學生能認真參與課堂教學,一部分學生英語基礎已經極其薄弱,對英語學習缺乏興趣。為了讓學生對英語學習不產生畏難情緒,能夠積極參與到課堂教學中來,所以在語言輸出環節設計上盡量讓學生模仿操練;難度稍大的語言產出采用小組學習法讓學生討論,教師幫助引導;在活動設計上盡量多樣化,通過真實的語境讓學生感興趣并能參與;在評價上盡量采用形成性評價,鼓勵學生的每一次積極參與,對學生的錯誤寬容并鼓勵表達,適時糾正。
