Comic strips & Welcome to the unit
I. Teaching aims and learning objectives
By the end of the lesson, students are expected to be able to: 1. know some festivals;
2. talk about their favourite festivals; 3. know the importance of festivals.
II. Teaching contents
1. New words and phrases: celebrate, lanterns, dress up as, get together, trick or treat, pumpkin 2. New structures: What’s your favourite festival?
What do you often do on…?
What about you? Why do you like…?
III. Focus of the lesson and predicted area of difficulty 1. Talk about their favourite festivals in groups; 2. Give a report on their groupmates’ favourite festivals.
IV. Teaching procedures Comic strip Step 1 Presentation 1. Watch and answer.
(1) A: What is Eddie so happy? B: Because it’s Halloween.
(2) A: What does Eddie want to do to celebrate? B: He wants to dress up.
2. Read after the tapes.
3. Read in roles and act it out.
設計意圖:用慶祝的圖片作為導入,引發學生興趣,并教生詞。接下來通過觀看視頻回答問題的形式,幫助學生充分理解漫畫內容。然后通過分角色朗讀,為表演做鋪墊。用Sentence Relay的方式幫助學生以小組形式達到從詞到句的拓展】
Step 2 Consolidation 1. Fill in the blanks. 2. Revise the sentence relay.
【設計意圖:最后設計了一個由漫畫改編的短文,幫助學生鞏固重點詞匯。并從書本學習延伸到學生的生活,對下一步學習進行一定的引領。】

Show pictures and let the students talk about what they know about the festivals 【設計意圖:用圖片作為導入,討論節日,復習小學詞匯,運用小組活動拓展詞匯】 Step 2 Guessing
Show different pictures, sounds and reading materials of festivals. Guess the names of festivals. Step 3 Checking 1. Finish Part A. 2. Group work.
(1) Listen to the dialogue.
(2) Read after the tape sentence by sentence. (3) Read in roles.
(4) Discuss different festivals.
【設計意圖:學生從單詞到詞組再到句子。既學習了新單詞,又涉及到本課重點詞組和句型,把單詞放到句子中學習,幫助學生更好地掌握單詞的用法。這一環節簡單易懂,可以使其輕松融入進課堂,同時又為下面話題的引出,做好了相關鋪墊。】 Step 4 Activity
Group work: a report on your group members’ favourite festival.
【設計意圖:通過小組(ABCD四個成員)活動,完成相似對話,學生在大量語言鋪墊下,包括節日名稱、時間和活動的表達,有話可說,流暢地進行語言輸出,鍛煉他們的口語表達能力,并展現中西方不同文化學習的情感價值。
同時小組每個成員都有任務完成,成員A是組長,負責布置任務并協調;成員BC負責對話,成員D負責記錄對話并提問。各個成員完成自己的任務,團結協作上臺展示,體現小組活動在課堂上的充分運用,也避免傳統課堂上小組活動中成員濫竽充數或英雄無用武之地的尷尬。】
V. Homework
1. Revise festivals in groups of 4;
2. Help group members with the reading material; 3. Learn new words and phrases together.
