[教材解析]:本篇課文選自人教版新課標教材的選修模塊7,為第一課時,閱讀課,將Warming-up, Pre-reading, Reading, Comprehending部分放在同一課時教學,設計成為一節閱讀課。故事發生于20世紀初期,一個名叫“Old Tom” 的虎鯨幫助捕鯨人捕鯨以及營救遇難者的事情。通過對文章的整體認知和把握,教師給學生創設情境,讓學生和自己的搭檔自主地學習、思考和討論,從而激發學生對動物的關注,引導學生要學習虎鯨和捕鯨人之間和諧共處,團隊協作的精神。
[學情分析]:本課是高二年級下學期的課程,學生已經具備一定的知識儲備和運用能力,但由于授課的對象的英語基礎水平較好,但是還是存在參差不齊的現象,為了激發全部學生的好奇心和求知欲,課堂采用了圖片引入法,讓學生對狗和獵人的動作進行預測,引導學生思考哪些動物和人類具備良好的關系,最終引出虎鯨和人類也是其中的一組的形式引導學生進入本節課。通過對閱讀的整體理解后,讓學生賞析文章之所以生動形象的原因,是由于一些對話和短語用的很巧妙。最后,由學生扮演課文中出現的不同角色,來活躍課堂氣氛,引發學生對合作精神的領悟。同時,在閱讀課中教師要滲透閱讀的方法和答題的技巧,培養學生閱讀的綜合能力,引導學生賞析英文表達中的精妙之處。

Show several pictures and explain the relationship between the killer whales and the whalers.
Brainstorm: Do you know any other animals which can be helper?
