Analysis of the Teaching Material and the Students
This is a writing lesson about change. It is focused on the description of our changes in appearance, personality, hobbies and so on. Since the Ss have learned the sentence structure “used to...”, they can use this structure to make more sentences. Training the students’ abilities of writing is a very important part in English teaching. Students are from Grade 9. They have mastered the basic knowledge of English writing. However, some students don’t know how to organize a composition by using conjunctions, and they often make some mistakes in spelling words, because they spend less time on writing. Now, they are preparing for the entrance examination of high school. According to the writing requirements, this class uses the hot writing topic changes, which is important issue but easy for our students. The purpose of this class is to help them to review the words, phrases and sentences of changes step by step, to write a composition properly by the outline.
Teaching Objectives
Knowledge
Objectives
1) To enable Ss to express changes in appearance, personality, hobbies, etc. in the present and past.
2) To enable Ss to use the sentence structure “used to...” to state what you used to do or to be like.
1) Be able to correctly use the general present tense and the
general past tense to make a comparison between the present
and the past.
2) Be able to use adjectives such as shy, friendly, outgoing, serious, funny, quiet, tall, short, straight, active to accurately describe the changes in the appearance and personality of the characters.
Ability
Objectives 1) To enable Ss to compare their present with the past and make a simple evaluation of the changes.
2) To enable Ss to provide reasonable suggestions and ways for the change of oneself and others. 3) To develop the Ss’ logical thinking ability, critical thinking
ability and creative thinking.
4) Be able to use the language of this unit to write an article about how you changed. Emotional Objectives
1) To make Ss deal with their own growth and change correctly by comparing the past with the present.
2) To enable Ss to pay attention to the changes of family, friends

and surroundings through observation and communication. 3) To enable Ss to feel the development and change of people and things, and make a correct judgment on the change.
4) To develop students’ positive attitude towards learning and build up their confidence in learning.
Key Points & Difficult Points
Key points:
1) To use the sentence structure “used to...” to state what you used to do or to be like.
2) To correctly use the general present tense and the general past tense to make a comparison between the present and the past.
Difficult points: To enable Ss to apply writing skills to efficient writing.

Step1 Greeting and Lead in (2 mins)
Activity
1. T shows two photos of me, one is a photo taken 5 years ago, the other taken at present.
2. Ask the Ss to brainstorm some words and expressions about Miss Wu’s change.
