Good morning, everyone.
Welcome to my class. I hope we can have a good time together. Today we are going to review the grammar of Book 3. First, enjoy a short video extract from Pride and Prejudice, a famous novel written by a British female writer Jane Austen.
Look at 4 sentences from the dialogue.
Sir, I appreciate the struggle you have been through.
I’m sure the feeling which hindered your regard will help you overcome it. Do you deny that you separated a young couple who loved each other.
...made me realize you were the last man in the world I could ever marry.
All of them are examples of attributive clauses. Now please open your books, turn to page 63, let’s finish the Activity 6 first.
Step 2 Tasks
Activity 6 Connect each pair of sentences using an attributive clause. Use commas where necessary.
1. My uncle, who is thirty-three, is getting married.
2. They visited an area of the desert where it only rains once a year.
3. Mother Theresa, who helped poor people all over the world, died when she was 85. 4. The ice which covers the South Pole has begun to melt.
5. Confucianism which is still important today is an ancient Chinese philosophy.
2
6. The ancient Egyptians, who were hardworking people, built the pyramids.
Defining attributive clauses contain essential information.
Non-defining attributive clauses contain extra information and have commas. If we take away the non-defining attributive clauses, the sentences still make sense.
Look at another 3 pictures from the movie.
