*Analysis of materials:
This part is mainly about the article Birthday food around the world,which includes some different countries’ birthday food traditions.There are lots of difficult phrases and sentences in this passage,thus,students must preview the text in advance so as to find out the complex sentences,phrases,and questions by themselves.Then students can solve these problems under the teacher’s help easily,also they will understand this article quickly.Students will know that different countries have different food traditions on birthday. *Teaching objectives:
1.Knowledge objectives:
A.Master the new words: world,answer,different,candle,age,blow,if,will,candy, popular,idea.
B.Master the phrases: around the world,in different countries,have birthday cake,
the number of...,make a wish,blow out,in one go,come true,cut up,get popular, bring good luck to....
C.Master the important sentences:
(1).The number of candles is the person’s age.
(2).If he or she blows out all the candles in one go,the wish will come true. (3).The long noodles are a symbol of good luck. 2.Ability objectives:
A.Talk about birthday food and know the culture of birthday food in different
countries.
B.Train the students’ ability of working in groups. 3.Moral objectives:
A.Improve the students’ interest of learning English.

*Teaching steps:
Step1.Greeting and Leading-in 1.Greet the class as usual.
2.listen to a birthday song “Happy birthday to you”,then show the title. Step2.Pre -reading
1.Talk about the following questions in groups:
(1)When is your birthday?Do you have a birthday party?
(2)What do you do on your birthday?What do you eat on your birthday?
2.Invite some students to share their answers with others,then sum up the the answer in common.
3.Learn some new words according to the pictures that the teacher shows on PPT.Students will read these words for several times until they master the correct pronunciation.
Step3.While-reading Task1
1.Listen to the record and try to understand the general idea.
2.Read the article carefully and work together to analyze how many countries are mentioned in this passage.
3.Try to complete the chart in 2b.
4.Check the answers in the chart,and the teacher leads students to understand the answer,and make a comparison between China and UK.Students will know different countries have different food traditions on birthday. Task2
1.Students read the article again by themselves.If they have any questions,they can circle or underline the difficult sentences.
2.Work in groups to translate these sentences or solve the problems by group cooperation.
3.Find out phrases from these sentences as more as possible.
