Unit 8 Our dreams (The first period)
Teaching contents： Story time
Teaching aims and learning objectives：
Knowledge objects:
1. Students are able to understand the content of the story.
2. Students are able to understand and know the words and phrases: our dreams, want to be, a dentist, care about, an astronaut, a spaceship, the World Cup, a dancer, in the future, a writer, a pianist, a football player, come true. Ability objects:
1. To train students’ ability of speaking and writing. 2. To train students’ ability of working in groups. Emotional objects:
After learning this part, students can talk about their own dreams and try to make their dreams come true.
Teaching importance：
1. Students are able to understand the story and act it.
2. Students are able to understand and know the words and phrases: our dreams, want to be, a dentist, care about, an astronaut, a spaceship, the World Cup, a dancer, in the future, a writer, a pianist, a football player, come true.
Teaching difficulties:
1. Students can read the words and phrases correctly, such as “dentist, astronaut, pianist”.
2. Students are able to talk about their own dreams with the sentence: What do you want to be in the future? I want to be ....
Teaching methods:
Situational teaching method, communicative teaching method, and task-based language teaching.

Step 1 Warm-up
1. Greetings and lead-in
T: Good morning, boys and girls. Ss: Good morning, Miss Qiang.
T: Let’s have some fun first. What’s Miss Qiang in the pictures? Ss: Miss Qiang is a ____ now. T: Which picture is true? Why?
Ss: ...
( In this part, some words about the jobs which they have learned in Grade 5 can be reviewed. Besides, the new words can be presented, such as “astronaut, dancer, football player” ) Step 2 Pre-reading 1. Guessing game
T: When I was a child, I have a dream. I wanted to be a teacher in the future. Now my dream come true. I am a teacher now and I teach you English. Some of you shared with us his/her dream, let’s have a look. T: What’s his/her dream? Who is he/she?
( Students will be encouraged to guess according to the description of the dreams. Their curiosity of whose dream it is will increase their interest.) 2. Talk in pairs
T: We have known these students’ dreams, and how about the others’? You may talk with your partner about your dreams. The following sentence will help you. -- What do you want to be in the future? -- I want to be ... -- Why? -- Because ...

( This step is designed for the students to talk about their dreams with the key sentence of this unit.) 3. Let’s share

Read the boys’ dreams carefully and underline the reasons. 4. Make a poem in groups
Students are asked to enrich the poem of the girls’ dreams and read it emotionally. ( The aim of step3 and 4 is to help the students get a better understanding of the story. Different tasks will bring the felling of freshness to the students, and which make them interested in the class.What’s more, working in groups cultivate their ability of co-operation.) Step4 Post-reading 1. Retell the story
Choose one of the students in our book and talk about his/her dream. I am ____. I have a dream.

( The task aims to consolidate the information they have learned and also improve their speaking skills.) 2. Read and answer
The little girl Annie has a dream. What’s her dream? Does her dream come true?
( Extended reading can broaden students’ thought and knowledge and develop the effective reading strategy.) 3. Make a dream card
1) Write down your dreams. 2) Collect your dreams.
( The purpose of this task is to increase students’ skills of writing.)
