一、教學目標
1. 聽懂并掌握下列詞匯:
square, meter, deep, desert, population, Asia.
2. 熟練運用形容詞的比較級、最高級(Comparatives and superlatives with adjectives)。
3. 能聽懂并談論地理與自然的句型:
What’s the highest mountain in the world?
4. 能正確表達較大的數字(large numbers)。
5. 了解我國和世界的一些“自然地理之最”。
6. 培養學生親近自然,關愛自然,保護自然的情感態度價值觀。
二、教學重點及難點
重點:
1. 聽懂并掌握下列詞匯:
square, meter, deep, desert, population, Asia.
2. 熟練運用形容詞的比較級、最高級(Comparatives and superlatives with adjectives)。
難點:正確表達較大的數字(large numbers)。
三、教學準備
教學課件、課本中涉及到的著名景點的圖片。
學生課前預習。

Step 1 Warming-up
Watch and learn
T: Hello, boys and girls. Today we’ll start to learn Unit 7—What’s the highest mountain in the world? First let’s enjoy a video and answer a question. What can you see in the picture, a mountain or a river?
設計意圖:通過讓學生看視頻引出本單元的主要話題,激發學生學習興趣的同時,并通過問答的方式提出問題,導入新課。
Step 2 Presentation
Look and learn
1. T: Now we’ll see four pictures which show different geographical sites around the world. The first one is the world’s highest mountain—Qomolangma (pronounce Cho-mo-lung-ma).
2. T: What’s this picture of? Yes, it’s of the Nile. Do you know it’s the longest river in the world?
3. T: We can see a sea in this picture. But it’s not a sea, it’s just a lake. It’s called the Caspian Sea, the world’s largest and deepest salt lake.
4. T: Who knows where it is? It’s the Sahara. It’s the largest desert in the world.
設計意圖:引導學生認知四個“自然地理之最”的相關知識,為下文的數據學習奠定基礎。

T: Here’re four numbers. Can you read now?
設計意圖:訓練學生對較大數字的正確讀法。
Look and learn
T: How can we read large numbers? First, let’s read 789, 654,321,21. When we put the four numbers into one, how can we read it? Remember to say million ,thousand and point.
設計意圖:通過直觀地將百位數組合方式呈現大數字的讀法,學生一目了然,使得大數字朗讀變得更容易。

T: Let’s look at the four numbers again, and what are they about?
T: Yes, it’s about Qomolangma. How high is Qomolangma?
設計意圖:通過與四個地理位置相關數字,導入度量學習,再一次對本課難點大數字讀法進行鞏固復習,又在恰當時機引出度量的學習。

Listen and complete
T: Here’re also four sentences about these four geographical sites. We’ve known the Sahara is a desert. Now you can read one by one. And then you’ll listen to the conversation and complete them.
設計意圖:引導學生結合聽的內容熟悉比較級和最高級結構的含義和具體用法。

Make conversations
T: Now it’s time for you to make conversations. You can refer to the information in 1b. At last some pairs of you will show your conversations here.
設計意圖:讓學生結對操練,通過模仿聽力中大數字的用法,口頭說出大數字,并用這四個地方的相關信息進行控制性的語言操練。
T:Use the information in 1a and 1b to make statesmates.
設計意圖:引導學生將1a、1b中關于同一個地方的信息在一起說出來。這樣,學生對這四個地方的表述就相對完整。
Step 5 Pre-listening and lead in
T: We’ve learned a lot about the world’s famous places. How much do you know about our own countries? Let’s watch a cartoon and anwer two questions.
設計意圖:引導學生借助我國人口、歷史、河流的話題內容,將學生帶入我們自己的地理與人文語境中。
Read and match
T: Next, read the four sentences in 2a and understand what they are about. Then match the sentences with the key words.
設計意圖:通過句子和關鍵詞匹配,幫助學生預測聽力材料背景和內容的能力,進一步降低聽力難度。

Listen and fill in the blanks
T: You will listen to the conversation and fill in the blanks with the numbers in the box.
設計意圖:鍛煉學生能夠通過聽獲取地理知識中的一些重要數據及與之相關的文化信息的能力,將學生帶入我們自己的地理與人文語境中。
Step 7 Post-listening
Make comparisons
T: Now I’d like you to make comparisons about the history, population and the size of China and the US.
設計意圖:鍛煉學生運用比較級和最高級結構進行陳述的能力,輸出聽力內容。

T: There is a great place of interest near here. It’s not more than 20 kilometers away from our town. Do you know where is it? Yes,it’s Longhu Mountain.
T: How much do you know about it?
T:What size is the Longhu Mountain Resort? It’s about 200 square kilometers in size.
設計意圖:讓學生對家鄉風景名勝更多了解,培養學生親近自然,關愛自然,保護自然的情感態度價值觀。
Think and surf the Internet
T: There are 99 peaks(山峰), 24 cliffs(懸崖), 108 natural and cultural scenic spots. Please surf the Internet and compare them.
設計意圖:通過列舉龍虎山景點,提高學生學習興趣。
Step 4 Summary
1.Read large numbers and describe facts about geographical sites.
2.Talk about geography and nature.
3.Compare facts about the world.
設計意圖:鞏固學生對本課時內容的掌握。
Step 5 Homework
1.Make conversations using the information in 1b.
2.Surf the Internet about the more information of Longhu Mountain Resort, and compare the facts about the scenic spots.
設計意圖:布置適合每個學生有梯度作業,課后拓展提高。

Qomolangma is 8,844.43 meters high.
The Caspian Sea is 1,025 meters deep.
The Nile is 6,671 kilometers long.
The Sahara is about 9,600,000 square kilometers in size.
China has a much longer history than the US.
The population of China is much larger than that of the US.
China is almost as big as the US in size
