The article The Problem of The Snakes introduces a girl invented a harmless way to catch the snakes . She trapped the snakes by making them cool and sleep. She tried three solutions and succeed. She wanted to apply for a patent for it. The passage aims to teach students the way of doing scientific researches and how to apply for a patent. It inspires students to be creative, hard-working and use the scientific methods to solve present problems Analysis of students:
They are students of Senior Grade 2 from No.3 Middle School, who have acquired some reading skills and basic thinking abilities. As independent-minded teenagers they are more interested in the open-ended tasks. But they may need the guidance from teacher while reading and understanding the passage. They are active and brave enough to voice their own opinions in the class. Teaching and learning aims:
By the end of the class, students will be able to:
1) Fully understand the text by finishing all kinds of reading exercise designed by teacher.
2) Come up with the girl’s qualities by analyzing the text.
3) Know about using the scientific methods to solve problems and how to apply for a patent.
Emotion, attitude and value:
Inspires students to be creative, hard-working and use the scientific methods to solve present problems
Teaching Key points and difficult points:
Train students’ reading ability by skimming and detail reading. Get the main idea of the passage.
Come up with the girl’s qualities by analyzing the text. Process and methods:

Step 1. Warming up and lead-in (3 minutes)
1. Guessing game, some words to describe snakes, which leads to the topic of the passage.
【Purpose】Use guessing game to stimulate students' interest in learning. Step 2 Pre-reading (2 minutes) Read and analyze the title.
Look at the pictures and predict what the passage is going to talk about. 【Purpose】Helps students to grasp the main idea of the passage by prediction. Step 3 Reading (20 minutes)
1. Skim the passage and come up with the main idea
