1、Teaching Goals： 
（1）Target Language Goals： 
 a. Learn some information about the three famous philosophers in ancient 
China. 
 b. Learn some useful words and sentences. （2）Ability Goals： 
  Train the students’reading ability. （3）Emotional Goals： 
 a. Develop positive life attitudes.  b. Broaden the students’horizons. 2、Analysis of the Teaching Material: 
The topic of this module is “Great people and great inventions 
of ancient China”. In this module, we will talk about some famous philosophers in ancient China and some great inventions worldwide. The purpose of the reading part is to introduce three famous philosophers in ancient China and talk about their teachings.  3、The General Idea of This Period： 
        In this period , we’ll introduce three famous philosophers in ancient China and talk about their teachings. By reading, the students can not only know some information about these famous philosophers, but also develop the positive attitudes towards life. 4、 About the students： 
Most of the students in this class are not good at English. They couldn’t remember some language points clearly, and they have difficulty in using words. Some of them may have trouble in understanding the meanings of some sentences.  
5、 Teaching strategies： 
 
                    
             
                    
                            （1）Teaching Methods： 
a. Activities to help the students go through vocabulary.  
b. Individual, pair and group work to make every student work in class. （2）Learning Strategies： 
a. Control: While doing tasks, watch and listen to other classmates and learn from them. b. Resources: Learn about different words and phrases to describe the life and teachings of the three philosophers of ancient China. （3）Teaching Aids： 
Multimedia and blackboard. 三、教學(xué)過程描述： 
1、 Teaching important points: 
(1)  Learn to get the teachings of every philosopher. (2)  Learn how to describe a person. 2、 Teaching difficult points: 
Express their own ideas about the teachings of these philosophers.  3．Teaching Procedures: 
Step 1. Revision

II. Guess the meanings of some famous sentences in the book Lun Yu. 設(shè)計意圖： 
因為學(xué)生基礎(chǔ)較差，知識面比較有限，此環(huán)節(jié)通過引入學(xué)生比較熟悉的《論語》一書中的內(nèi)容，讓學(xué)生先討論該書，引發(fā)學(xué)生興趣，然后引入一些書中耳熟

此環(huán)節(jié)讓學(xué)生通過快速瀏覽文章，掌握每段的大意，并能基本掌握三位哲學(xué)家的生平和主要哲學(xué)思想。 III. Detailed reading Two activities: 
Activity 1: Pair work 
Discuss with their deskmates about the statements on the screen and tell true or false. 
1.Confucius lived in a country where there was no war a long time ago.  2. Confucius was a philosopher who has been the most influential for more than 2000 years.  
3. Mencius was a student taught by Confucius.  4. Mencius resigned from the government because the ruler didn’t respect him.  
5. Mozi’s beliefs were the same as those of Confucius.  Activity 2: Individual work 
Do exercise 3 in the textbook and check the answers. 設(shè)計意圖： 
通過此部分，幫助同學(xué)們快速抓住文章細(xì)節(jié)信息并做出準(zhǔn)確判斷，培養(yǎng)學(xué)生的理解和分析能力。 Step 4. Summary

Write a short passage about what we should do to follow the teachings as middle school students. 設(shè)計意圖： 
通過作業(yè)的形式，把拓展部分通過書面表達(dá)的形式進(jìn)一步進(jìn)行練習(xí)，一方面，鞏固文章所學(xué)內(nèi)容。另一方面，讓學(xué)生通過文章，進(jìn)一步思考生活。
