教材分析
Learning about language部分包括兩個(gè)方面,這節(jié)課聚焦的是Discovering useful words and expressions. 這一部分共有四項(xiàng)練習(xí):練習(xí)一是根據(jù)相同的后綴寫出已給單詞的同根詞;練習(xí)二是將下劃線的表達(dá)用文中的表達(dá)進(jìn)行替換,必要時(shí)可以重寫句子;練習(xí)三是根據(jù)所給段落,選擇正確的單詞填空;練習(xí)四是看圖,用所給的詞描述圖片,將描述說(shuō)給同伴聽。
四個(gè)練習(xí)看似沒(méi)有聯(lián)系,但實(shí)際上從詞的構(gòu)成到語(yǔ)句再到段落再到篇章,有難度的梯度,也符合本單元Inventors and Inventions的主題。
學(xué)情分析
本課的授課對(duì)象是高二學(xué)生。學(xué)生的英語(yǔ)基礎(chǔ)存在個(gè)體的差異,但整體上經(jīng)過(guò)一邊的高中英語(yǔ)學(xué)習(xí),已經(jīng)具備一定的學(xué)習(xí)詞匯、表達(dá)的能力。但選修八相對(duì)其他幾本書來(lái)說(shuō)難度增加,加之“如何成為一個(gè)真正的發(fā)明家”這一話題對(duì)學(xué)生們來(lái)說(shuō)比較陌生,因此如何熟悉并運(yùn)用本單元詞匯、表達(dá)需要具體的指導(dǎo)與練習(xí)。
教學(xué)目標(biāo)
At the end of the class, the students will be able to
1) make word pairs with the same suffix and use this rule to be familiar and memorize new words;
2) categorize the words and expressions to describe how to be an inventor with the help of the word web;
3) use the words and expressions to translate sentences, understand them in the context and write a short speech to introduce the author’s experience.

Step 1: Word puzzle

T provides an example and analyze different types and suffix. This activity aims to introduce the 1st way of learning words, that is, learn them in a family, and thus arouse Ss’ awareness of how words are formed and encourage them to pay attention to prefix or suffix of words.
Step 3: Set up a word web

Students work in groups to underline the words and expressions according to the different aspects listed.
1. T introduces the aspects related to the text
2. T asks Ss to underline key words and expressions in the aspects and write what Ss find on the blackboard.
This activity aims at providing Ss another chance to read the text, and categorize the key words and expressions.
Ss will be aware of a new way to learn and use words and expressions —the Word Web.
Step 4: Fill in the blanks.

Ss use the words and expressions in the word web to complete the sentences. T asks Ss to use the words and expressions in the word web to complete the sentences. This activity aims to help Ss to use words and expressions in a correct way.
Step 5: Translation

Ss talk to each other to check the translation.

This activity aims at helping Ss learn to use words and expressions correctly in sentences or passages.
Ss will be aware of the third tip — learn words and expressions in context.
Step 6: Report — Sharing experience
