T: Look, these are the Learning aims of this lesson.
(1) I can read and understand changes(變化) of Mike’s family. (2) I can understand and try to talk about changes.
Step 1 Before reading 1. Free talk
T: Now, let’s begin our lessons. Hello, boys and girls. I’m your new English teacher today. My name is Ann. Nice to meet you.
2. T: Do you want to know about me? You can ask questions with where, what, how.
預設問題S: How old are you? How old do I look like?
Where do you come from? I am from Nanjing. It's not far from here. Which school do you teach? I teach in Qinhuai No.1 Primary School/
What's your job? Now, I am giving an English lesson here. So I am an English teacher.
What's your hobby? /What do you like doing? I like listening to music. I can listen to the music on my mobile phone. Do you know mobile phone?(show) Look! But twenty years ago, I listened on the radio. (Show)
I like shopping. I usually buy things on the Internet. But ten years ago, I bought things from shops. Show shops.
What can you do?/How do you go to school every day? I can drive a car. Six years ago, I couldn't drive a car. I rode a bike to school. But now, I can drive the car.
3. T: You know a lot about me. I want to know something about you. T: What's your name?
How do you come to school every day? Can you ride a bike? What do you like doing? 4. T: What can you do now? S: I can...
T: Could you…six years ago? S: No, I couldn’t.
T: What could you do then? S: I could…
T: What can you do now? and what could you do then? Please talk in groups..
4. T: Now, I know your ability six years ago and now. So, today, we’ll learn a new story about “Then and now”. Show the title
Step 2 While reading
T: Who’s in the story? Look at the picture. Mike, Mr Brown, Mike’s grandpa, Mrs Brown. T: They’re Mike’s family. 1. Show picture 1.
1) T: Look at Mike.
What could he do six years ago? What can he do now? Please talk in pairs. 2) Listen and check
1. Six years ago, Mike could read and write. 2. Mike can play football. 3) Check
4) What does "do many things" mean?
T: What can he do? Have a guess. The more, the better. S: He can play... I think. (Play basketball, speak Chinese.)
5) We see a lot of changes from him. What about their family members? 2. 出示2-4圖
T: What's the differences between the two parts of pictures? S: They were young many years ago. They are old now in these pictures.
T: What about their changes? Let's learn the paragraphs in groups. Choose one paragraph, read sentence by sentence, underline key phrases about changes.

T: Thank you for your sharing. 1)Here, wrote is the past form of write
2) Telephone, mobile phone, they both have "phone", show pictures
Do you have a telephone at home? Today, most of young people use mobile phone instead of telephone.
3) T: Show sentence: He can call people anywhere. It means? Choose: A. He can call people in the office.
B. He can call people no matter( 無論 ) where they are. 4)T: Now, let's read it together.
5) after reading, please think: How did Mr Brown contact with his friends twenty years ago?
S: He wrote letters. He used the telephone at home and in the office. T: And now?
S: He uses a mobile phone. He writes emails.
Paragraph 3.
1) T: Read the phrase: read newspapers for news
News 新聞 paper 紙 newspaper 2) Teach: radio
3) read, T: This word can’t be pronounced /read/, it’s the past form. We should pronounce it /red/ e-book, e-mail, e-friend 4) please listen and read.
5) Q: How did Mike's grandpa get news?
S: Thirty years ago, he listened to the radio and read newspapers for news.
T: And now?
S: He reads and watches news on the internet.
Paragraph 4
1)made is the past form of ------make Bought is the past form of------buy
2)Teach: all over the world (指導朗讀) She has e-friends from all over the world.
It means: She has e-friends from different countries in the world. 3) let’s listen and read.
4) T: After reading , do you know: How did she buy things? S: She bought things from shops.
S: Now, she does shopping on the internet. Q: Where did Mrs Brown make friends?
S: She made friends at school. T: And now?
S: She makes e-friends on the internet.
4. T: Now, let's follow the cartoon together.
Step 3 After reading 1. Think and match
T: Six years ago, Mike could… he couldn’t… now, he can do many things.
Mr Brown…(Ss talk) grandpa, Mrs brown 圖片逐一出現,請學生說 指著板書,we can do these things on the blackboard. T: They changed a lot from then and now. Think and choose, what are their changes? Please discuss in pairs. Check:
T: What’s the change of Mike? What about Mr Brown?...
2. P38, write and say. Finish by yourself.
Then talk in pairs, like the dialogue.
備用2. Now, choose one picture, talk about their changes. Work in groups. 3.
T: We have talked about Mike’s family. How about ours? Let’s go back to 1988. What’s the life like?
Let’s come back to 2016 now. What’s our life now?
We have a lot of changes. Love, ideal, faith, effort, it’s the changes of life. Look at these people, they life changes. Life is full of changes, and changes make us develop.
Step 4 homework
1.Listen and read the story.
2.Copy the key phrases about their changes in the story. 3.Try to talk about the changes of you and your family.
