I. Teaching Content: one passage and one composition. II. Teaching Aims:

essay about the DNA with useful expressions from this period.
III. Teaching Procedures:
Step 1. Leading-in
Watch two shorts videos of the movie The Time Machine.
Step 2. Reading
Read the cultural corner and do the reading tasks.
Step 3. Discussion
Discuss the influences of DNA and the solutions to its harms.
Step 4. Writing
Write a short essay according to the discussion.
Step 5. Presentation
Present some of the students’ essays and ask them to grade them.
Step 6. Homework
Write a passage about their own opinion on DNA.
Step 1 Leading-in
Watch two short videos and answer the two questions below. 1. What happened to the man?
2. How many kinds of creatures are there in the video?
Possible answers: 1.He travelled from the past to the future. 2. Two.
Teaching aim: to arouse the students’ interest in the passage and develop the students’ listening ability.
Step 2 Reading Fast Reading
1. What does the Time Traveler discover in the year 802000?
Possible answer: He discovers that human beings have evolved into two completely
different kinds of creatures.
Reading guidance: To get the answer quickly by locating the key words.
Careful reading
1. Find one word from the passage to replace dawn on in the last paragraph. Answer: strike

Step 5 Presentation
1. Present two essays on the screen and ask two students to grade them. Aim: To develop the students’ language skills.
2. Check the answer and take down the useful expressions.
DNA, the secret of life, is a science that has already caused and will cause great changes in our lives.
DNA does help us in many aspects nowadays, such as criminal investigation and paternity testing. However, if used improperly, it may bring about several problems. For instance, some may use DNA to satisfy their personal or even illegal desires, which may not only alter nature but disorder society. Worse still, people may get stuck in trouble once their personal information is revealed against their will. To solve these problems, firstly, the usage of DNA should be highly supervised and controlled. Besides, personal information is expected to be protected seriously. Hopefully, we can make good use of the benefits DNA brings to us and try our best to prevent its harms, thus creating a peaceful and happy world for us all!
