Narrative Writing(I) --The Arrangement of Activities
Teaching Aims:
1. To enable the students to introduce activities, esp daily activities;
2. To get the students to go over and master the vocabulary and the sentence structures about
introducing activities;
3. Help to improve the students’ writing.
Important Points and difficult points:
1. Help the students learn how to introduce activities and write a letter clearly. 2. The vocabulary and the sentence structures about introducing activities;
Teaching methods:
1. Cooperative learning; 2. Task-based method.
Teaching procedure: Step 1: Greeting.
Say “Good Morning” to boys and girls. Step 2: Before-writing & Discussion
Task 1: Read the passage loudly.
Have Ss read the following passage. After reading, examine the topic and write the steps on the Bb. Show the following passage on the screen. 【2015·全國卷Ⅱ】 假定你是李華,計劃同學去敬老院(nursing home)陪老人們過重陽節(jié)(the Double Ninth Festival)。請給外教露西寫封郵件,邀她一同前往,內(nèi)容包括: 1.出發(fā)及返回時間; 2.活動:包餃子、表演節(jié)目等。
Task 2: Analyze the passage.
Ask Ss to read the passage carefully and answer these questions according to the passage. Then underline the sentences or circle them. After finishing the work, ask Ss to pay attention to the writing outline above.

Step 3: Thinking & Discussion
Just now, we analyzed a letter about the activity that will take place next Saturday. Then,what should we do before writing this kind of passage? What is the writing type? (A Narrative Writing) How to write a narrative? Ask Ss to discuss with their partners about it. The Key is: six points. (who, when, where, why, what, how)
Step 4: While-writing & Discussion
As we see, now that the 3rd monthly examination has just finished, let's go somewhere relaxing and have a rest this weekend.
Task 1: Speaking & Discussing: work in pairs. Ask Ss to discuss with their partners about your plan.
1. Who will you go with? ( I with my classmates / my parents) 2. When will you go? (this weekend / this Sunday)
Task 2: Work in groups.
Divide Ss into small groups: four students per group and answer these following questions:
3. Where will you go? ( go to the beach/ the countryside/ the library/ stay at home) Eg:This Sunday, I with my classmates will go to the beach.
4. Why will you go there? (to enrich our school life /to relax ourselves/to get close to nature/ to promote the friendship)
Eg: This Sunday, in order to enrich our school life and get close to nature, I with my classmates will go to the beach.
Task 3: Speaking & Discussion
Have Ss enjoy some pictures about activities and say something about them one by one. Go to the beach with our classmates Help to do some housework Do some reading in my free time Visit the museum with my family
Go camping with my parents by the mountain Go to the countryside with my friends
Have Ss read the phrases loudly and show more activities to Ss.Please look at it.
5. What will you do there? (First, go swimming.Besides, fly a kite.What's more, have a picnic. Meanwhile, take photos)
Examine the topic!
1. The writing type---narrative (about activities) 2. The person: the 1st person/ the 3rd person
3. The tenses:
the simple future (will)--plan, arrangement
the simple past(was/did)--story,dairy,report 4. Key points: who, when, where, why, what, how

After discussion, ask Ss to give a report about their plan and pay attention to the key points, esp, the relationship between the place and the activities. Then have Ss read the phrases above
about activities loudly and carefully and make sure that Ss can understand all of them. If necessary, give Ss a few minutes to write them down on the notebooks.
Eg: This Sunday, in order to enrich our school life and get close to nature, I with my classmates will go to the beach. The following are my plans. First of all, we will go swimming and go boating. Besides, some can enjoy the sunshine. Others can fly kites on the beach. What’s more, some beautiful photos will be taken. Most importantly, we can breathe fresh air and promote our friendship.
6. How do you like the activity? ( It can make me relaxed and happy.)
Ask Ss to talk about it. The more, the better. Maybe some examples can be provided. Eg: I will go swimming and surfing, making me relaxed and delighted.
We will breathe fresh air and promote our friendship, which is a meaningful and attractive
thing.
Through the trip, not only can we pass our love to others, but also we can enlarge our
knowledge and enrich our spare life.
Step 5: Writing & Practice
Task 1: Have Ss read the title carefully and analyze it, giving some help to Ss..

Task 2: Have Ss finish the passage according to the requirements. Ask two Ss to write their passages on the Bb and check the answers with Ss. If possible, read more passages other students write.
Linked words: In the morning, ... Then,...
In the afternoon,... After that,... In the evening,...

Finish the writing on your exercise book.
