Looking good, feeling good
Advance with English (譯林版牛津高中英語(yǔ)) Period 1: Welcome to this unit

★ Learning objectives:
By the end of this period, the students are expected to
1.get involved in the discussion and practise their spoken English.
2.give advice about how to look good and feel good. 3.write their own opinions about beauty.
4.understand how to look good and what the true beauty is.
★Thoughts on the design:
M1 U3 is about health and beauty. Students are expected to express their own opinions by comparing the importance of beauty and health in order to practise their spoken English. What’s more, they are expected to form the correct concept of beauty.
★ Teaching important and difficult points:
It is important to help Ss get involved in the discussion and practise their spoken English; it is difficult for Ss to air their views in speaking and writing.
★Teaching Methods:
Cooperative learning, task-based learning
★Teaching aids:
A multi-media computer, a blackboard
★Teaching Procedures:
Step 1 : Understanding Lead-in
1.Ask Ss whether they like me and tell me why.
2.Show them two pictures to compare the importance of normal weight. 3.Make Ss understand it is important to look good in correct ways. If not, things will be different.
Step 2 : Sharing
1.Let Ss share their opinions about which is more important . 2.Ask Ss the questions:
Are you more concerned about your appearance or your health? What is your reason?
3.Share my opinion with the Ss and tell them looking good and feeling
good are equally important.
4.Watch a video and ask the Ss:What did the dog do to look good and feel good?
5.Have a competition to make them come up with good ways as many as possible.
6.Share some don’ts with the Ss.
Step 3: Expressing
1.Make Ss think about what beauty is and enjoy some English sayings. 2.Use what you have learnt today to create your saying about beauty. 3. Let them express their creation bravely.
4.Create more sayings about beauty according to the picture and the music
5.Summarize the elements of beauty. Step 4 : Homework
1. Preview reading and tell Amy which is more important and how to look good in correct ways.
2. Share your opinion about beauty with Amy and tell her what true beauty is.
