As the information technology advances, many people think that printed books and articles will be replaced by computer devices in the future. To a certain extent, I would agree that the number of printed books will decrease in the future, but I do believe that paper books will continue to exist.
It is true that people can obtain a lot of information from the Internet. There are tens of thousands of websites which contain valuable information, and many traditional media like CNN or the New York Times also provide news online, which can be read on the iPad or smart phone. As a result, many people prefer to read information from electronic devices. The Internet seems to be the first and sometimes the only source to go when we need to search a subject. However, because the web has a large amount of information, locating exactly what we need is sometimes a difficult task. Sometimes we find it easier just to go to the library and use a book. Another problem of searching online is whether or not the information is correct. We sometimes can be deceived by the information on a website, without knowing what we are writing down is incorrect.
Books, newspapers or magazines will never disappear, though their number may fall. Firstly, books provide a better reading experience. They are convenient to carry and easy to get. Books are available in the library, in the bookstore, in your pocket or beside your pillow. After a day’s work, we can sit down relaxing ourselves by reading a good book, and a well-designed one will even enhance the reading experience. Reading through a screen would not be that comfortable, and may cause eye trouble after a long time. Secondly, the development of Internet technology is not equally spread all over the world. The online services might only be available in developed areas, and people who live in the rural or remote areas still need books and written information.
In conclusion, although books will be used less as computer age takes over, they certainly will not be replaced by information online, as some people feel uncomfortable reading from the computer screen, and others who live in the countryside may not have the access to the technology.
