本課時為八年級上冊第六單元第三課時(閱讀課),是本單元Section B部分承上啟下的一節課,在SectionB1a-1e中主要以對話的形式談論人們的不同種類的新年決心,2a-2e 以New Year's resolutions 為主線,以貼近現實生活的resolutions
為話題展開閱讀活動,本節課則是對新年決心的進一步談論,閱讀語篇介紹了resolutions 的定義、種類、特性等,讓學生們對新年決心的相關內容有更明確的了解,讀后設計了匹配段落大意、將句子放回原文、根據短文內容回答問題、用文中出現的重點詞組造句等閱讀任務,發展相應的閱讀技能,提升閱讀策略,為下節寫作課寫新年決心做鋪墊。
教學目標 Teaching Aims
1) Aims of knowledge: after this lesson, students will be able to:
★Master some words and phrases such as resolution, improve, self-improvement, physical health, weekly, have to do with, make promises, have…in common, write down, for this reason, take up.
★ Use “be going to” to talk about their resolutions.
2) Aims of abilities: after this lesson, students will be able to:
★ Read the passage and extract useful information, improve their comprehensive
reading ability. ★ Use “be going to” to talk about their resolutions.
3) Aims of emotion: after this lesson, students will be able to:
★ Know that resolutions may be difficult to keep, but we should take more actions and try our best. ★ Moral education:
Everyone has their own dreams and plans for the future. People often talk about their resolutions, but most people hardly ever keep them. After this lesson, the students should understand that doing is better than saying and a good resolution is a good start to success.

Careful reading 1) Ask students to read the passage carefully paragraph by paragraph and finish the reading tasks as well as the mind map. 2)Let them discuss the questions in groups. 3)Show some pictures of different people’s resolutions. Explain some new phrases. Lead students to Para 2 —three different kinds of resolutions. Read the text quickly and match the main idea with each paragraph. Listen to the teacher and read each paragraph carefully. Discuss and answer the questions in groups. Students can give other examples of different kinds of resolutions. Learn the some more Help the students know the main idea about the text by reading quickly. Develop students’ ability of fast reading. Tell students that pay attention to the first and last sentences of each paragraph.

Prepare a beautiful poster and stick it on the blackboard. 1.By talking, students know the importance of resolutions. 2.Then, students can talk about and write something about their resolutions for the new term. 3.Finally, the group leaders stick their resolution cards to the poster. Let the students know doing is better than saying. It’s easy to make resolutions but a little difficult to keep resolutions. Arouse student’s interest by sayings. Make sure students can use “be
going to” to talk about their plans in the future. Students are able to
