Topic 2 I must ask him to give up smoking.

I. Teaching aims and demands:
1. Learn the new words and phrases, make sure the students can read them fluently. 2. Learn to group the words about food.
3. Go on learning to use some reading strategies, such as, predicting, scanning, skimming, to finish the reading tasks.
4. Learn to retell the passage with the help of some key words.
5. Learn some knowledge of healthy eating habits and unhealthy eating habits. II. The key points and difficult points. 1. Key points:
① Be able to tell healthy food and unhealthy food.
② Be able to give others some advice about healthy diet using should/ had better / must. 2. Difficult points:
① Be able to understand the sentences with object clauses and adverbial clauses in this passage. ② Be able to write a short passage about healthy diet using the food they have learnt. III. Teaching aids:
Computer multimedia projector. IV. Teaching procedures: Step1 Revision
1. Show some pictures about living habits and discuss if they are healthy. If not, give their advice.
2. Lead to the new section. Ask the students what they usually have for breakfast / lunch / dinner. Get the students to work in groups and write down as many words about food as they can. Step2 Pre-reading
1. Show the picture in 2 to the students. Learn the new words about food. 2. Group the words about food and finish the pre-reading tasks.
3. Look at the picture in 1a and predict what Jane’s mother said to her. Step3 While-reading
1. Listen to 1a and match the sentences with the pictures in 1b. 2. Scan 1a and circle T or F. Finish 1c.
3. Read 1a again and find out the key sentences in 1a and explain them. 1) What mothers said to eat
2) Mothers always tell their children what they should eat. 3) She said it might cause illness.
4) Maria’s teeth were very weak, so her mother said that she mustn’t eat too much candy or ice cream.
5) Every morning before she left for school, she had to drink a glass of milk because her mother was always watching her.
6) As soon as Michael saw it, he got mad. 4. Explain some important phrases. 1) force sb. to do sth. 強迫某人做某事
e.g.這場大雨迫使我們停止工作。 _____________________________ 2) as soon as “一……就……” 引導時間狀語從句。
e.g. 雨一停,他就離開了。_________________________________
as soon as 引導的時間狀語從句,當 主句用一般將來時,從句要用一般現(xiàn)在時。 e.g. 我一到家就給你打電話。 _________________________________ 3) be surprised to do sth. 對……感到驚訝/意外
e.g. 她很驚訝地發(fā)現(xiàn)自己迷路了。__________________________________________ Step4 Post-reading
1. Play the recording, students listen and repeat.
2. Read 1a by themselves and find out the key words, preparing to retell the passage. 3. Retell the passage according to the key words.. Step5 Project
1. Get the students to discuss Danny’s diet in group and talk about what they think of his diet. 2. Give Danny some advice using should/had better/must orally. Step6 Homework
1. Write an e-mail to Danny and give him some advice about healthy diet. 2. Preview Section D.
