Teaching aims;
Improve scanning skills, Increased reading speeds, Understanding complex
vocabulary (compound nouns) in sentences.
Warm-up – Ice Breaker (3-5 Minutes)
This should usually be connected with the lesson aims – however, due to myself
being a new teacher to the students my warm up will begin with an icebreaker.
I’ll then ask them some questions relating to the book, which is to help activate their
interest in the topic.
Presentation (3-5 Minutes)
Pre-teach Vocabulary – I will pre-teach vocabulary which is thought to be of difficulty.
Controlled practice (During Reading) (15-20 Minutes)
(5 minutes)
1st
Task (skimming); Students will connect headings to content
Strategy Check – I will give some tips on reading to the students to increase
reading speed.
(10 Minutes)
2n task (Scanning); Students read the book – I will monitor students one by one
during this time.
Closing activity – Student will answer specific questions with their partners.
Fast finishers will be asked “what else they could make with recycled plastic
bags?”
Free practice (5-10 Minutes)
Students will answer question about the topic in small groups

I will write some good and bad sentences on the board from the free practice stage.
Then students will pick the good sentences and correct the others in groups.
