Period 4 Reading and Discussing (Using Language)
Teaching Goals:
After class the students will be introduced more ways of helping developing countries; their awareness of the importance of helping others will be further developed; gain some notable points for speaking. Teaching Procedures: Step 1. Revision
Check with the class the homework assigned in the last period. Step 2. leading-in
1. Lead Ss to think more about people in need to arouse their awareness of the importance of helping others.
2. Lead Ss to the Internet page. Teacher may say, “From the pictures and the text, we know that there are many developing countries where people live a hard life. After knowing that, you may think about helping them. There are many ways to do so. There are even some organizations that help you to do so. Now, let’s look at one of such websites.”
3.Ask Ss how they surf the Internet and let them take a quick look at the website on P33. Step 3. Reading
1. Ask Ss to look at the top of the Internet page and introduce the functions of the blue buttons there.
2. Ask Ss to read the Internet page quickly and finish some questions. (1) What is this internet page made up of? (2) Why are the gifts on the page unusual? (3) How much difference will your gift mean? (4) What do these gifts mean?
3. Ask Ss to finish the Exercise 2 on Page 35 to find the correct gift for each description. 4. Ask Ss to conclude . Step 4. Language point
Lead Ss to deal with more notable points. Step 5. Discussion
1. Arrange a discussion. Teacher may say, “One day you found an appeal on the internet from Joy for help to aid the students in PNG .Discuss in groups to decide what gifts you want to buy with your pocket money? Give reasons.”
2. Ss will be given some time for the discussion and then get some students to present their opinions.
3. Ask Ss to write their ideas down, if time permits. If time is limited, let Ss finish it as homework.
Step 6. Homework
1.Accomplish and polish your essay with your group members. 2.Keep the words and expressions you learned in your mind.
