How Failure Became Success 
          
Learning objectives: 
1. To grasp the main idea of the story by skimming the key points of a story : who, what,   when .... 
2. To know the format of a story: beginning(background information) --- development  ---- ending. 
3. To try to retell the story in our own words after reading. 4. To develop critical thinking through understanding the story. 
5. To sum up Shackleton, the main character and learn the qualities from him.

3. Using what is learned in the class to express one’s own ideas.   
Learning process: 
Step I . A song and an advertisement as lead-in. 
【設(shè)計(jì)意圖】sailing這首歌的視頻，與本文的主題一致，通過創(chuàng)設(shè)與主題意義密切相關(guān)的語境，激發(fā)學(xué)生參與活動的興趣，用課文南極之旅的招募廣告，突出Shackleton 和27個水手的勇敢的傳奇故事，并與課文開頭銜接。

5) How did the whale hunters react when they saw the six men? Why? 6) Why does the author say Shackleton kept his promise?

What do you think of the trip?     What impressed you most? How do you like Shackleton?   What do you learn from the trip? 
If you had a second chance to the South Pole, would you still go there?
