Analysis of the students
Students in Senior Three have practiced writing for many months, but many of them find it difficult to get higher marks in writing assignment. That is mainly because they fail to use impressive sentences in their articles. It is high time that advanced ways to polish their writing should be concluded and used.
In addition, the topic of Chinese element is an extremely popular topic in the College Entrance Examination. Students are not so sure about how to express it in English. They have actually done such kind of writing assignment before, but they have found much trouble in introducing certain aspects of Chinese element. Therefore, beautiful sentences concerning this topic ought to be introduced to students to guide them to write similar sentences.
I would like to conclude various ways to polish articles and especially talk about the topic of
Chinese element, so that students will become less confused when they meet with such kind of writing assignment and even manage to introduce it to others in the future.
Teaching Procedures Step 1. Lead-in
Get aware of the task of this class through a short video and have a quick look at Li Hua’s writing which is in need of polishing.

Students are divided into two teams to help Li Hua polish his passage. To make it easier, students are guided to conclude three main ways from the impressive sentences written by their classmates recently. 1. Advanced words
(use proper adjectives before nouns and adverbs before adjectives or verbs) 2. Advanced phrases
(use advanced connecting words to make articles fluent and logical) 3. Advanced sentence patterns
(倒裝句;強調句;非謂語結構;定語從句;名詞性從句)
【設計思路:學生前不久寫過有關外國人參加中文演講比賽的祝賀信,寫得出彩的句子再次被展示出來。這不僅可以增強學生的自信心——其實已經有不少同學寫出高級的表達,還可以讓學生更快地自己總結出潤色文章的方法。】
Step 3. Polish one sentence in Li Hua’s writing by using proper advanced vocabulary One sentence is picked out from Li Hua’s writing. Students are supposed to polish it with the help of proper advanced words and phrases. Meanwhile some useful advanced vocabulary is introduced to them when the team competition continues.
【設計思路:總體的習題設置遵循學習規律,由易至難,從詞語到句子到篇章,層層遞進。這一環節為降低難度,更有針對性,并讓學生更加專注,只選取李華作文中常見的其中一個句子。通過再次強調如何用一些高級的詞語詞組來引導學生潤色這個句子。他們之前在課堂中學習過,只是并沒有對此進行系統總結。趁此練習完成后,引出高考作文中常用的高級詞匯,強化學生大膽用高級詞匯的意識。】
Step 4. Use advanced sentence patterns to polish sentences concerning Chinese element
1. 強調句 - Chinese Tea Culture & Chinese Cuisine 2. 非謂語結構 - Peking Opera
3. 名詞性從句 - Cheongsam 4. 定語從句 - Chinese Painting
5. 倒裝句 - Papermaking Technology & Chinese Chess
【設計思路:此環節難度加大到潤色句子,題目難度設置由易到難。中國元素這一主題是近年來高考作文命題的熱門話題,學生之前雖然寫過兩三次類似的作文,但很多都難以得到高分,主要問題是學生不知道如何利用高級的句式介紹各種中國元素。本練習中所有句子都以中國元素為主題,學生可以通過練習更熟悉當中提及的七種中國元素,學會如何寫出漂亮句子,還可以舉一反三,運用到相應的話題作文當中。】 Step 5. Polish the second paragraph in Li Hua’s writing
Students are asked to apply what they have just learned to polish the second paragraph in Li Hua’s writing in nine minutes. After that, some of students’ excellent sentences are shown on the screen and all the students will be guided to appreciate them.
【設計思路:此前學生已潤色過句子,現在難度升級,潤色全文的重點段落。其中一個句子已在第一個練習中出現,稍微降低練習的難度,同時又加深學生的印象。學生練習完后,可以選取幾個寫得好的段落,當堂投影出來,讓學生一起來欣賞學習,與自己寫的作比較,發現還可以提升的地方,盡量達到更好的學習效果。】 Step 6. Homework
Polish Li Hua’s writing.
【設計思路:作業設置的主要目的是鞏固本節課總結的潤色文章的方法,并讓學生反復不斷地練習,加深印象。此前的練習是從句子到段落,最后的作業就到篇章,難度進一步加大。同時,這可以讓學生課后通過運用本節課總結的知識,寫出完整的更好的文章,提供更多的自我思考和提升的空間。不少同學之前寫出來的文章跟李華的類似,希望通過這些總結和訓練,他們可以學到如何潤色文章,在作文中獲得更高的分數。】
