一,整體設計思路
Idea of lesson design This lesson sets out to deal with the reading task in this unit. Students will read a passage about festivals and celebrations.
In addition to developing students’ reading abilities and strategies, this lesson will also raise their interest in festivals all over the the world.
The Analysis of Teaching Materials This is the first period of this unit, which mainly deals with the reading passage,Festivals and celebrations.The reading briefly introduces the earliest kinds of festivals with the reasons for them and then four different kinds of festivals that occur in most parts of the world.In the end, the passage offers the reason why we have festivals and celebrations.An important element I the unit is the opportunity to compare and contrast cultural practices in China and other societies. Most cultures have celebrations that include food, music, dress, dance and opportunities to get together in a relaxing environment. These events take may different forms and are more or less important in different societies. Use the opportunities to have the students think about the reasons for festivals and the reasons for different ways of celebrating.
The analysis of Students Senior One students are always willing to learn new knowledge. And the topic—festival, is of great interest to them and can bring happiness to them.The festival is an interesting topic for students.

1) Show the six WH- words on the screen. These WH- words are linked to different kinds of questions.

這一任務旨在檢測學生對文章細節的掌握,教師設計了不同類型的題目讓學生回答,針對細讀認讀進行檢測。
2, Task Two 教師活動
1) Divide the students into nine groups and provide each group with an information card. On this card some additional information about the festival is written.
2) Ask each group to describe the festival they get and let the other students guess what the festival is.

2)Students can refer to the information card to discuss each festival.
3) Group leaders give presentation and describe the festival on their information cards.And the other students listen attentively and guess what the festival is.

這一活動讓學生對細節信息進行整合,并且給學生提供信息卡片,讓學生對文章中所提到的節日有更充分的了解。聽說結合的活動讓所有同學對文章中所提到所有節日都有了更進一步的掌握。
3, Task Three

1) Summarize the festivals mentioned in the previous task.
2) Lead the students to compare and contrast festivals home and abroad. 3) Let the students discuss their attitudes towards foreign festivals. How should we treat foreign festivals in China? 學生活動
