學情分析
The simple past tense is based on the simple present tense. However, the students have already learnt it before, so it won't be difficult for them to understand its usage. What's more, the reading part of this unit talks about what happened in the Sunshine Park last Sunday. The simple past tense is used in the whole article. As a result, the students have gained a general idea of this tense. But they may have difficulty writing out the past forms of the verbs, especially irregular verbs. Therefore, in this class, I'll make full use the reading material which the students are familiar with to get them to discuss, experience, research and conclude the usage and the structure of the simple past tense. Finally, they will be able to use the simple past tense to talk about things in the past.
2重點難點
1. To grasp the usage and the structure of Simple Past Tense.
2. To use Simple Past Tense to talk about things in the past according to the linguistic
context.

3.1.1教學活動
活動1【講授】教學過程
活動1 【導入】Warm-up& presentation 
Step1  Warming up
Enjoy an English song called A Small World. Get the students to sing after it.
Step2 Presentation
★Present the learning aims of this class.
★ Present the new words.
Teacher’s interlanguage: As we all know, our world is full of amazing things. So we have set up a Fun World Club to make fun. Would you like to join us? If so, you have to finish three tasks.
(Its purpose is to active classroom atmosphere. At the same time, to lead the classroom teaching naturally.)
活動2 【講授】Discussion and conclusion 
Step3 Task 1: To learn the simple past tense of the verb “to be”
★Practice  Revise Reading and talk about what Millie and Amy did last Sunday. Get them to complete the following passage with correct forms of the verb “to be”.
What Happened in the Park (1)
Last Sunday, Millie and Amy          in Sunshine Park. Suddenly, they heard a whisper from the bushes. It         strange. They thought there _____ a ghost. They         very afraid and left the park quickly.
★Rule 1 Get the students to discuss the answers in groups and work out the rule:
We use the verb “was/were” to talk about    states     (actions, states) in the past.
We often use these time expressions:
last Sunday/…yesterday/the day before yesterday/…
a moment ago/…just now,  in 1966…
Step4 Task 2: To learn the simple past tense of the verb “to do”
★Practice  Come back to Reading again and talk about what happened to Millie and Amy next. Get them to complete the following passage with correct forms of the verb “to do”.
What Happened in the Park (2)
On their way home, they       (meet) Andy. Then Millie       (tell) Andy everything. Andy        (go) to the park,         (stand) beside the tree, and        (listen) carefully. Then he         (hear) the whisper!He          (search) the bushes and         (find) a little cat. It was very weak.
In the end, they         (take) the cat to the animal centre.
★Rule 2 Get the students to discuss the answers in groups and work out the rule:
We use the simple past tense of the verb “to do” to talk about  actions   (actions, states) in the past.
There are three kinds of past actions:
a single past action  B. a series of past actions   C. a habitual past action.
  ★Read and judge:
(1) Andy went to the park, stood beside the tree, and listened carefully.
(2) Millie told Andy everything.
(3) They often went to the park last year.
Step5 Task 3: To learn how to form Simple Past Tense of the verb “to do”
★Presentation:
When it miaowed, it sounded like a whisper.
★Rule 3 Go through the form on Page 61 and work out the rule
(1) We form the simple past tense by adding “ed" to regular verbs.
(2) We pronounce the letter “ed”like this:
清讀 /t/, 元濁 /d/,  /t/ /d /之后 讀 /id/
★Presentation:
Andy went to the park, stood beside the tree and listened carefully.
★Rule 4 Go through the form on Page 61 and work out the rule
We form the simple past tense of irregular verbs differently. We do not add –ed.
★Practice  Complete Part A on Page 62. Have a competition among the three teams.
(The purpose of this part is to train the students’ skills of conclusion through discussing, experiencing and researching the sample sentences.)

Teacher’s interlanguage: Congratulations!You have finished all the three tasks. Now you’re members of the Fun World Club and you can join the club activities.
Step6 Activity 1 Visiting the Fun World Museum (Part B)
★Get the students to do it individually
★Discuss the answers in groups.
★Check the answers with the whole class.
★Ask and answer some questions about the museum.
Step7 Activity 2 Talking about the Fun World Museum (Part C)
★Get the students to do it individually
★Discuss the answers in pairs.
★Check the answers with the whole class.
★Act out the dialogue in their own words.
Step8 Activity 3 Summary
Get the students to summarize what they have learned today. Then enjoy two chants.
(The purpose of this part is to consolidate what they have learned in this class in a more pleasant way.)

Step9  Making a poster:
       Draw a time line on a piece of paper and introduce your experience (經歷) in your group.It’s better to show some of your pictures on it.
Past  Now
(The purpose of this part is to encourage the students to use the simple past tense to talk about things in the past.  We hope to improve the students’ comprehensive abilities of using English )

(The purpose of this part is to consolidate what they have learned in this class in a more pleasant way.)
活動5【作業】Homework
1.Remember the past forms of the irregular verbs on Page106.
2.Write a short article about what you did last weekend.
