Getting to know passive voice

Teaching aims:
After this period, the students are able to:
1. Getting to know the structure of passive voice in present tense. 2. Know the differences between active voice and passive voice. 3. Know how to use passive voice.
4. Know more about Chinese tea culture, and pass the tradition.
Difficult points:
How to use passive voice correctly.
Important points:
1. Sum up the structure of passive voice by observing the sentences. 2. Rewrite sentences using passive voice. 3. Use passive voice freely and easily.
Teaching procedures:
Step 1: What does it look like? (創設情境, 進入話題)
1. At the beginning of the class, show students a video about tea. At the same time, ask them to write down the information as much as they can. T: What are the facts about tea?
Ss: Tea is produced in many different areas. Tea plants are grown on the mountains. They are picked by hand.
The tea is packed and sent to many places.
(學生通過聽,看,說的形式將與茶相關的一般現在時的被動語態的句子親自呈現出來,
引入到一般現在時的被動語態這個任務上。)
2. Ask students to read and observe the sentences, and then find the things in common. Lead students to summarize the structure of the passive voice.
Structure of passive voice in present tense: am/ is/ are+動詞的過去分詞
(學生通過自己觀察總結得出一般現在時的被動語態的結構,能讓學生更加牢固地記住這一結構。)
3. Practice: do some exercises including the ones in 4a. These exercises can strengthen their understanding of the passive voice.
(在講解練習的過程中,讓學生參與進來。便于更好的發現學生的難點,實現重難點突破。同時,講解練習中所涉及到的新單詞。)
Step 2: What are the differences?(借助圖片,引出例句)
1. Show students two pictures and the following information: Group 1: Farmers grow tea plants on the sides of mountains. Tea plants are grown on the sides of mountains. Group 2: Workers pack and send the tea to many places. The tea is packed and sent to many places by workers.
2. Ask students to find the differences and choose which are passive voice sentences and which are active voice sentences.
3. Summarize the rules on how to change the active voice to passive voice.
(運用與茶相關的圖片,使茶這一主線自始至終貫穿整個教學過程,通過比較歸納,了解主動語態和被動語態在形式上,意義上及用法上的區別。)
4. Practice: do some exercises in 4b, rewriting the sentences using the passive voice. (這一任務是對前面一個任務的拓展,不僅僅是填空,還需要寫出被動語態的句子,難度上有所提升,并將by +執行者運用到句子中。)
Step 3: How to use it? (完成任務,落實新知)
(完成e-mail,介紹中國的傳統茶文化。在此過程中指導學生靈活運用主動語態和被動語態。)
1. According to the information above, ask students to write an e-mail to their friends to introduce Chinese tea culture.
2. Talk about the customs in tea drinking:
to show respect; to apologize; to express thanks to parents on the wedding day; to pass on the tradition;
(通過此活動,讓學生了解到了茶文化,實現了情感提升。)
Step8. Homework. (布置任務,延續學習)
1. Review the grammar focus and try to have a dictation about them. 2. Preview 1a-2a on page 37-38.
