教學重點 Enable students to understand the passage about the important event through the title and the topic sentences in each paragraph.

教 學 流 程
Period 5
Step1: Greet the class.
Step2 Leading-in
Show some pictures about important events and talk about the pictures. Step 3 Reading Pre-reading:
Have students look at the pictures and title in the passage, then predict what the passage is about.
Introduce some background of the two pictures. While-reading:
1. Let students listen to the recording to skim the passage.
and answer the question in 2b.
2. Then have them scan the passage to complete the chart.
Ask some students to answer the answers. Read the first and second paragraph, complete the form.(讀1-2段,完成表格。)
What was the event? When did it happen? Where did it happen?

How did his parents feel?
Read the third and forth paragraph, complete the form.(讀3-4段,完成表格。)
What was the event? When did it happen? Where did it happen? What was Kate Smith doing?
How did she feel?
3. Have the students read the passage carefully and complete 2c, then check answers.
4. Let the students read the sentences in 2d, and find out the sentences from the passage with similar meanings, and then underline them. Check the answers in class. Step 5 After-reading
Have students work in pairs to ask and answer the questions. Ask some students to answer the questions.
Step 6 Summary and homework
Review the reading skills we have learned today.
Use the skills to read another passage and complete the exercise.
It's very important to know the relation between children and sports. Parents should know that sports play an important part in the development of a child.
Children usually get physical exercise,so they are healthier and stronger when they grow up. And they become more outgoing. Also,they get to know the importance of working hard.
When parents choose a sport for their children,they should remember the following things. First,the special skills that the sport needs should not be too hard. Second,don't push the child to take up a sport that he or she doesn't like. It is also important to remember not to push a child too hard to play a game. The child should learn a game and develop it at his or her own speed(速度).This will also give him or her the chance(機會) to choose a right sport.
The relation between children and sports is usually discussed by many families over the world. Remember to choose a sport that fits the child's age and know the child's ideas on any sport.
