1. Ask the students to finish the exercises

由when, by the time, before等引導時間狀語從句時,若描述發生在過去的事,主句常用過去完成時(had + 過去分詞)表示動作發生在過去的過去。
Be about to do, be doing等表示即將或正在做某事時,常用when引導從句表示突然發生的動作,when可省略。 Ⅴ. Practice
1. Work on 4a. Ask four students to write their sentences on the blackboard.Correct their sentences together in class. Eg. (1).Tim went into the bathroom. Mary got up.
By the time Mary got up, Tim had already gone into the bathroom. (2). The coffee became cold. I put cream (n. 奶油) in the coffee. (3). The teacher collected the math homework. I got to school. (4). I completed the work for my boss. The workday ended. (5). The movie started. I arrived at the cinema.
(6). My mother finished making the apple pie (n. 果餡派). I got home from my language course.
2. Work on 4b. Let Ss read the words or phrases in the box and try to understand the meanings of them. Then fill in the blanks with the correct forms of the words by themselves.
