Lead-in: Show some pictures to students and ask them who they are? Step 1: Free Talk.  
1. Do you like playing basketball? 
2. Do you know who invented basketball and how basketball was invented? Step2: Learn some new words and phrases. 
Step 3:Read the passage quickly and find out what the main idea of each paragraph 
is? 
Step 4:Read again and answer the questions. 
(1).When was the first basketball game in history played? 
(2). Where did the basketball first become an event at the Olympics ? (3).What did James Naismith do? (4).What do many young people dream of?

Step 6:Read the second paragraph and complete the mind map. Step 7:Read the third paragraph and fill in the chart.
