Predict the content of the passage according to the title.
The structure of the passage is simple. ( general-particular pattern )
Tell the intended readers and purpose according to the types of phrases( title and subtitles) and the content.
Introduce the first characteristic of a popular science article: a short and eye-catching title.
Step 4:Textual analysis:
Paragraph 1(general statement ): Smart homes can do something to make our life easier.
The author introduces the topic by asking questions.
Paragraph 2: Smart homes use automatic control to make our life easier:
1.What is the topic sentence?
2.How does automatic control work?( General- particular pattern )
The author organizes the paragraph by making comparisons and giving examples. (The second characteristic of a popular science article )
Paragraph 3: Smart homes can monitor your health to make life easier.
1.What's the topic sentence of this paragraph?
2. How does the writer develop this paragraph?
3.How will your smart home monitor your health?
Paragraph 4: Smart homes can prevent serious damage To make life easier.
One student is expected to analyze this paragraph because this paragraph has a similar pattern with the previous one.
(The topic sentence; How does the author organize the paragraph? How to prevent serious damage? )
Paragraph 5: Conclusion: This smart technology is not a fantasy but it will take long.
1.How do you understand the sentence "the home of tomorrow is already the home of today"?
2.What's the main idea of this paragraph?
Step 5: Topic-related lexis
Step 6: A guessing game (To use some topic-related lexis )
If you are able to create a smart device, what will you create? Write about your creation. You are supposed to include:
1. a name indicating the device;
2.a general introduction to the new device;
3.examples illustrating its new functions;
4.the benefits the new device can bring.
