Designed by Song Shangju Part1 The analysis of the teaching materials:
This lesson is the developing idea part.It is in the form of online forums. There are four posts which are all about misunderstandings in learning English.It aims to make the students aware of the cultural differences and master some idioms by finding and solving the misunderstandings. Part1 The analysis of the students:
As senior1 students, they are outgoing curious and energetic. Ss have already had a foundamental understanding of English misunderstandings.But they lack the ability to solve them.Besides, they are not good at express themselves and creating situations.
Teaching aims:

To master the ability to get the key information by skimming.

To enable students to create situations(情景創設能力)and use the key words and phrases to describe the situations.

To deepen Ss' awareness of cultural differences in using English(加深學生對英
語使用中文化差異的感知能力)
and appreciate the beauty of the lively English
language.
Teaching important and difficult points:
To create and describe situations in a proper way.

PartI Pre-reading
Step1:Listen to the dialogue and answer the questions.(
individual work)聽力原文:
M: A little bird told me I am pretty handsome.
W:Oh,yeah! I agree if a bird can really talk.
Q1:Does a bird can really talk?

_____________________________________________________________________ Teaching purpose: Introduce the topic of misunderstandings in English ,arouse Ss’ interest by the funny dialogue and train their listening ability.
Learning result: Ss will feel intersted and have a basis understanding of the topic.
Step 2. Listen to Doctor Bird and answer the questions. 聽力原文:
Doctor Bird:Recently,I have found 4 interesting posts from the Online
English-learning forums, which are all about misnuderstandings in English.Can you help them find and solve the misunderstandings?
Q:What does Doctor Bird want us to do ? Would you like to offer help?

Task2: Finish Activity 3 on Page22 and find the true meanings for them.

Tips from Doctor Bird:Congratulations boys and
girls.You really did great jobs.If you meet the same situations while learning English, read between lines.That is to say, find the useful information in the context to help you guess the meaning of the unfamiliaridiom.
Teaching purpose: Train the Ss’ reading ability to find details and know how to find useful information in the context.
Learning result:Ss will know how to find details by Who, Where and What happened and learn how to find useful information in the context

Step5. Retell the situations of Julien by describing Who, Where,What happened. Example:
Yancy was studying at a summer school.He is confused about the reason why his English teacher was absent from the class because of having a frog in her throat.
