I. Analysis of Teaching Material 
This unit is selected from PEP Grade eight, Unit 9 Section B 2b. Singapore - A Place You Will Never Forget! The language functions are talking about past experiences. And we have a chance to know more information about different cultures in different countries, especially in Singapore. 
II. Analysis of the Students 
Students in Grade 8 have learned English for some years. This content is close to the students’ travelling experience and the topic related to cultures of foreign counties, so it can bring up the students’ interest in expressing themselves in English as well.

第4課時 
教學(xué) 目標(biāo) 
1. 語言知識目標(biāo)： 
1）To learn some new words and expressions of this section.． 
Eg: Southeast, quarter, fear, Indian, wake, equator, awake. Thousands of…, on one hand…on the other hand, three quarters of the population, an English-speaking country, whether…..or…., the best time to do sth., wake up. 
2.）Practice the reading skills: skimming,  scanning, careful reading. 3）make some notes about the good parts of visiting Singapore . 2. 情感態(tài)度價值觀目標(biāo)：learn to respect the culture of other countries. 
重點 (1) Master the words and expressions and know how to use them. 
(2) Improve communication skills and reading skills, especially learn how to make notes. 集體研討

(1) Main idea and the structure of the passage. 
(2) Give proper advises about how to introduce a place.

I. Have a speech and warming up 
1.Ask the student who is on duty today to give a speech about this Unit. 
2.Play a game named Me, too. 
Ask the students some questions about where they have been to.  (To stimulate the students’ learning interest and warm up.) 【設(shè)計意圖】游戲的方式, 復(fù)習(xí)現(xiàn)在完成時并激發(fā)學(xué)生學(xué)習(xí)興趣和熱情） 
II. Pre-reading 
1. Show a short video to the students and make them have a choice “What does the video tell us about Singapore? 
2.Lead to the context we are going to learn today.(unit9 section B 2b)  “Reading and Passing”

III. While-reading 
1. Skimming:  Try to match the main idea with the correct paragraph.

Paragraph 4                  Location, population and language (To practice the reading skill: skimming and make the students get the main idea of each paragraph.)

2. Scanning :Read Para. 1 &Para.2 and fill in the blanks. (To practice the reading skill: scanning and make the students get the details of Para 1 and Para 2.) 
【設(shè)計意圖】訓(xùn)練同學(xué)們跳讀的閱讀技能，并使同學(xué)們掌握第一段和第二段的詳細(xì)信息。 
3.Careful Reading : First, watch a video about the Night safari and then ask students to read Para 3 carefully and find the answers of the following questions. 
1. What is the name of the special zoo ?

_________________________________________________________ 3. Why do we watch them at night ? 
_________________________________________________________ (Use the strategies of slower and more careful reading process. Help the students know the Night Safari in Singapore. Help students form a general idea about the places of interest in Singapore.)

（2）4.Careful reading ：listen to Para. 4 and finish the exercise. 1. Can we go to Singapore in winter?

(Listen to the Para 4 twice and let the students’ brains more active and then find something good about the weather in Singapore.)

IV. Post -reading 
Make some notes about the good parts of visiting Singapore.  1.Will you advise your family or friends to visit Singapore? 2.What will you tell them about Singapore?  
Tips: There are four topics here and  you can choose only one. (1)Location,population,and language (2)Food  (3)Night Safari   (4)Weather 
Choose one card and give a report according to the requirement of the card.
